Hello everyone! I am Courtney Dela Cruz Guitones. I am seventeen years of age, turning eighteen this coming March 3. I was born in Cebu City, Philippines with a younger brother whose three years younger than me, and currently studying at St. Therese Academy. My mother and father are both high school graduates but nonetheless, they were able to provide us our needs and sometimes our wants. They did not reach college because of teenage pregnancy or whatsoever but they did not finish because of family and financial problems that is why they gave their utmost best to provide us the education and the family me and my brother needs. I fellowship with the Roman Catholic and so is the rest of my family. I really do not like outdoor activities and the feeling is mutual, sports does not like me too. I always prefer indoor activities and indulge myself in books, movies and other entertainment platforms. I really love myth, science fiction and thriller genres when I am reading books, watching movies or dramas, I especially like watching medical related dramas and I also enjoy reading webtoons. I have these hobbies because I love to see different perspectives about certain things, situations and events where the author makes another stand for a certain thing and uses creativity with words or visual illustrations to convince the readers. I am a kpop fan, I especially like BTS but nit because of their faces or the intense choreography but the diversity of their music. I think their passion to tell stories through music and sometimes they use classical books as references made my three years of being a fan worth it. I used to love writing poems but I lost interest in writing them. Then I began loving reading books especially series like Percy Jackson, I have this weird rule that I should not read a book if I have already watched the movie adaptation because I had this very disappointing encounter when I just read the second book of Percy Jackson which is Sea of Monsters and Hunger Games catching fire and then watched the movie adaptation to it then later found out that there are details found in the book but was not present in the movie and that is when I made the rule of not reading the books when I already watched the movie adaptation. I admit, I am not a very consistent person, I have lots of pending books and webtoons to read and dramas to watch because I believe that hobbies are only done when you want it, you are not obliged to finish a book or drama. You read and watch when you want to. I do not know if this is good or bad, or if the proper term is flexible or weak-willed but I am a person who is easily influenced. If my friends watch something, I also watch it or if they do something I also do it but except harmful or illegal things. I would love to study Psychology in the future so my advocacy is understanding people with unstable mental health because there are a lot of people who has prejudice against people with unstable mental health saying that they suffered such because of their own doing or saying it is only in their head and they should have fought it easily. But I think this is totally wrong, it is not something that can be cured overnight because we do not know what happened to these people, what they suffered, have gone through, what trauma they experienced from society, friends, peers or even from their family. People with suicidal thoughts and depression, instead of meeting understanding and comfort, they are met with criticisms. I think people like these should be met with understanding and comfort by people surrounding them because we each have our limit in temper or sensitivity and mental breakdowns. Just like what Kim Nam Joon said in his UNICEF speech “No matter who you are, where you are from, your skin color, your gender identity, speak yourself”. No matter what you are suffering from, if you are met with understanding people, you can always lean on them, cry your heart out and speak yourself.
